Cavalry Officer (Greek)
Captain C.M. Mélas, military attaché

Horseman and diplomat, the fine head with nice classical features, erect under an elegant tunic decorated with crosses: this officer is from a kind nation, given to psychological subtleties. Greece our mother "where honey is so sweet", formerly enslaved, yesterday, again, looking for her voice, has planted her white and azure-blue quartered flag on the lands where her genius formerly shone forth, here at Salonika, in all the pleasant Cyclades, in soft Smyrna, here in Thrace, at the gates of Byzantium. Her diplomacy, always, was skillful and flexible; she knew how to reward magnificently the task accomplished and the heroism of the Greek soldiers, fallen in the trenches of the Vardar.
